Guidance on Connecting Baseplate with Chemical Anchors

Hello Hilti Community,
Can you please advise if it is possible to connect an existing baseplate with a bolted connection to a larger plate and then fix it to the existing concrete base using chemical anchors? Please see the attached detail for reference.
If this connection is feasible, could you refer me to the relevant design codes or guidelines that cover this type of connection?
Thank you for your assistance.

Best regards,
Waqar Ahmed

Dear Waqar,

Everything related to S2S connections (Steel to Steel) is defined in EN 1993.

The anchor connection to the concrete can be calculated with Profis Engineering, where you can even take the baseplate deformations into account.

Some sidenote:

  • We do not recommend to add up the thickness of both baseplates, since they are both bending seperatly (even if you connect them tightly) and model is as a single baseplate.

Perhaps you can use the principle of "superposition" to get to a solution if 1 baseplate doesn't do the job. However, in general we will forward you to the constructor in charge of the project, since it is his responsibility to calculate/guarantee that a connection will be sufficient.

I hope this helps you. If you have any further questions, please reach out to us via Email
